Wanda Lee Wardlow Black, 96, of Lancaster, KY peacefully passed away Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Stanford Care and Rehab facility. She was born March 25, 1928 in Garrard County to Theodore and Nannie Wardlow. Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She spent her entire life in the Lancaster and Paint Lick area, graduating from Paint Lick High School in 1946. Wanda was a former secretary for Cowden Manufacturing for many years. She was a proud, former member of the Old Paint Lick Presbyterian Church, and an active member at the Lancaster Presbyterian Church.
Wanda was married to William Kenneth Black for 39 years and to that union was born three children. Nancy (Rod) Plaxico of Somerset, KY , Joyce (Ken) Parent of Vero Beach, Fl., Kenny (Sharon) Black of Lexington, KY. She was also blessed with 4 grandchildren; Kere (Jeffrey) Minton, Kaley Parent, Jayson Plaxico (Renae), and Joseph Plaxico. In addition, Wanda was proud of her 7 great grandchildren: Emma and Ben Plaxico, Victor Plaxico, Morgan Rose, Lindsey Minton, Ella Minton, and Will Geittmann. Wanda was preceded in death by her sister Allene Bradley. She was also fortunate to have an extended family of Kenneth Irvin, who preceded her in death, along with Mitchell, Barbara, and Preston Irvin. Wanda also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly. She always showed boundless love for her family and community, and held a special place in the hearts of all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Denny officiating and burial following at Paint Lick Manse Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jayson Plaxico, Ben Plaxico, Victor Plaxico, Joseph Plaxico, Preston Irvin, and Ralph Ray Burnside. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home, and from 12:00 noon until service time on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at the funeral home.
