photoErnest L. “Moon” Montgomery, 86, of Lancaster, Ky., passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington. Born March 4, 1929 in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Walker D. & Peachie Mae Hurt Montgomery. Ernest had been in the sales profession all his life , was an avid golfer who had 8 hole in one’s during his lifetime, was a charter member of the Woodland Hills Country Club in Jackson, Tn., had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson, Tn., Siloam Baptist Church in Ninety-six South Carolina, and most recently a member of Lancaster Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wives, Jean Coakley Montgomery, Dorothy Hammonds Montgomery, daughter in law, Sharon Montgomery, son in law, Pick Noble, and a great grandchild.

His survivors include his wife, Tina Raines Montgomery of Lancaster, a son Gregory (Michele) Montgomery of Ashburn, VA., two daughters, Carolyn Noble  of Tupelo, MS.,  Lynn (David) Dorris of Maryville, TN.,  three step daughters, Phyllis (Mike) Tracy, Bobbie Gail (Rex) Speake, and Sharon Miller , all of Lancaster, one brother, Gordon (Beverly) Montgomery of Melbourne, FL., four sisters, Faye (Henry) Wilson & Jo Ann Lanham both of Gravel Switch , Betty Slater & Dr. Patricia Montgomery, both of Lexington, 4 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren,  4 great grandchildren & 4 step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 9, 2015 at Ramsey Funeral Home by Rev. Harold Best & Rev. Stephen Brogli. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Sunday at Ramsey Funeral Home.  Burial will take place 3:00 PM Tuesday, (CST)  March 10, 2015 at the Ridgecrest Cemetery in Jackson, TN. Pallbearers are Kevin & Rodney Lanham, Tracy & Dudley Stone, Alex Montgomery & Eric Wilson. Honorary bearers will be members of his Sunday School Class, Kenneth Montgomery & Sky Tudor. Friends and family may leave condolences or special memories on his tribute wall at  In lieu of flowers, contributions may go to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.

    My thoughts and prayers are with Tina & the Montgomery family, Mr. Ernest was a “gentleman”, I hope by Tuesday the weather will be much improved.

    Years ago I treated Ernest at the Markey Cancer Center. He was always upbeat and a true southern gentleman. I saw Ernest a few times over the years and he remained upbeat and positive. My sincere sympathy to his family.

    We met Mr. Montgomery at Siloam Baptist Church and always enjoyed his company! We extend our deepest sympathy to the family at this sad time!

    Mr Ernest was a wonderful man no other like him we have truly missed him here at Siloam in Ninety Six. My our Father give His Grace to each of you.
