Charles Lee Hardwick, 88 of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, October 21,2018 at his home. Born Friday, January 03, 1930 in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Leland Sr. & Maggie B. Hurt Hardwick. Charles was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War Era, & was a member of Operator Engineer’s #181 until his passing. In 1957; three years after coming home from the military, Charles joined the American Legion, where he became commander of the Lancaster, KY Post #35, where he remained a member until his passing. He was a member of the Masonic Order, & was a past Master of Lancaster Lodge #104 for 55 years as of 2016, & a past High Priest of Chapter 56 Lancaster Masonic Lodge. “ KY Colonel Charles L. Hardwick” was in the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows for over 50 years, & worked all over the U.S. including on the Alaskan Pipeline. He was also a member of Lancaster Baptist Church & attended Hyattsville Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Leland Hardwick, Jr., Ben F. Hardwick, William P. Hardwick; sisters, Minnie Pearl Lane, & Mary F. Spillman.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Foster Hardwick; son, Patrick Lee (Erin) Hardwick; two grandchildren, Jason & Adam Hardwick, & three great-grandchildren, Mattie, Cole & Archer Hardwick. Funeral service will be held 1:30 PM, Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Rhodus officiating, & burial following at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Hardwick, Adam Hardwick, Bobby Hardwick, Jimmy Foster, Donald Ray Lane & Richard T. Hurt. Honorary pallbearers include Gilbert Clark, Vernon Gallagher, Dwight Hurt & Lloyd Sebastian. Visitation will be 11:30 AM at the funeral home until service time on Wednesday. Charley always had a smile and warm handshake most devoted member of the Masonic Lodge, which I use to be a member, Charley had a heart of gold his late mother Maggie B. Hardwick was the most wonderful and kind lady ( whom the late Jim Ramsey thought the world of) thought and prayers to the family.
